This young lady’s name was Meridith Emerson.  She was murdered.  She was sexually assaulted and mutilated.   Now, a magazine owned by the depraved publisher Larry Claxton Flynt wants to be able to show you her body, and the state of Georgia is working to keep scenes of her nude, decapitated remains out of Hustler magazine.   Here’s CNN’s story.

It boils my blood to hear of sewer rats like Flynt trying to make money off this story.

“The photos are awful, but it’s also awful to see pictures of people in wars, soldiers fighting or the victims of wars,” said New York attorney Martin Garbus.

Let me save some of your time, and get to the real reason Hustler magazine is working so hard to get the crime scene photos:

She was young and pretty.

And there are sickos in this world who would get a sexual charge from seeing the remains.

The killer has confessed.  He’s the one who led investigators to the body.

My first inclination is to tell my old friend John Bankhead at the GBI to take the crime scene photos to the incinerator off Panthersville Road.   But on second thought, I believe I’d sit back and wait, and see just how the courts and the legislators deal with this.  I still have a little faith in our legal system.  By destroying evidence, we become as bad as those who break the law.

But if we become so base a public, that even the victims of sexual assault and murder have no rights to the last bit of decency that’s left….to leave their bodies in private and away from pornographers…. what do we have left?

If this is what journalism has become, I might as well head to the house-  because I want no part of it.
